Elbert's Progress Report

A freind in Georgia opened her heart to this pig and brought him home. Clearly any one can see the pain and the crippling caused from over feeding.

I found this very hard to watch and had tears pouring down my cheeks at the end.

Me too and i have watched it more then once with the same out come..

You can see closer to the end of the clip where he is walking and for a few seconds there is a look of happiness and alertness. What a trooper he is ..

If only every person who overfeeds a pig could see the outcome, the fat blindness; if only every person who fails to trim the nails were forced to walk on their knees and elbows for a day......

I will never understand the cold, cold heart of people who let pigs get into this condition; and I will always be grateful beyond words for people like your friend in Georgia, and for people like you, who take these animals, love them, care for them, and help them to know that their desire to survive was worth the struggle, because somebody loves them. Elbert may still be crippled, but he now knows he is loved and has worth - and that makes all the difference.

Thank you for posting this.

I am wondering if this pig was one I owned years ago. Got him as a piglet, and named him Elbert after my grandfather (who raised pigs). We live in Alabama. When my 2-yr. old son became terminally ill, I gave Elbert to a friend of a friend in Georgia. I would love to know if this is my pig, as we loved him dearly and have wondered about him so much. It breaks my heart for what this pig has endured, but looks like he is in good hands now.

When my 2-yr old son became terminally ill, I gave Elbert (then about 3 yrs old) to a friend of a friend in Georgia, since we couldn't care for him. That was about 12 years ago. I have wondered and worried about Elbert over the years. I would love to know if this is him. It breaks my heart that this pig (whether MY Elbert or not) was allowed to get in this shape.
